The Discovery Pharmacy (DRx) is an accredited pharmacy which provides everyday health care as an enterprise dedicated to research, education, and innovation. It provides health care programs delivered by members of more than one health discipline and embedded within the University of Toronto’s interdisciplinary health care education and research eco-system.

The CARD System (Comfort, Ask, Relax, Distract) is an evidence-based approach that can be used to help children and adults better prepare for vaccination clinics, improving their experiences and helping to address vaccine hesitancy.

The OPEN Interactive Atlas of Professional Pharmacist Services provides summaries of trends and regional differences in indicators of health or health care delivery by visualizing the delivery of pharmacy services across the province.

The Doctor of Pharmacy Program has recently launched a curriculum renewal process. In this session we will share an update on this exciting initiative, including some initial areas of focus. One of the exciting initiatives that the faculty is implementing is PharmPath: Your Journey to Pharmacy. The project was funded by the University of Toronto’s Access Programs University Fund and aims to promote diversity in the pharmacy profession through outreach in secondary schools.

– presented by Carolyn Cummins and Keith Pardee

PRiME Next-Generation Precision Medicine is a community of world-class scientists, engineers and innovators that advances innovation, training and fundamental science to develop new solutions for unmet needs in human disease. By harnessing the value of inter-disciplinary research and translation, PRiME is delivering substantial impacts for the Toronto ecosystem, including for institutions and researchers, but also the biotechnology sector, clinicians and ultimately patients.

Keynote: Breakthroughs in Pharmaceutical Oncology and Translational Cancer Research 
– presented by Raymond Reilly

As part of a collaborative research team with leading clinicians at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Professor Reilly is investigating MRI-guided focused ultrasound to improve the penetration of drugs into the brain and has developed radiopharmaceuticals that track the uptake of therapeutic drugs by imaging.

Pharmacy is rapidly emerging as one of the central pillars of continuing health system reform. Expanding scope of practice and new responsibilities present unprecedented opportunities for the profession to enhance patient care as never before; however, implementing these opportunities into practice requires management, leadership, and entrepreneurship from the profession itself.  In this presentation, we will review past and current work to support the pharmacy profession and signpost future initiatives designed to unleash the potential of pharmacists and technicians to improve health care outcomes for Canadians
