Former Vice President, Quality and Safety and Chief Patient Safety Officer, University Health Network (UHN)

Emily Musing is an Associate Professor (status) with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation (IHPME), and an affiliate faculty of the Centre for Patient Safety, University of Toronto. Until her recent retirement, she was the VP, Clinical and Chief Patient Safety Officer at the University Health Network (UHN). Emily led both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, across UHN’s sites. She also provided leadership related to Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobial Stewardship and the Patient Safety Team. She led UHN’s Caring Safely initiative in partnership with the Hospital for Sick Children. Most recently, Emily co-led UHN’s COVID-19 Vaccine Strategy. Emily is currently the inaugural Leader-in-Residency for the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto.

Emily received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto (1983) and completed a post-graduate Hospital Pharmacy Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. She attained her Master of Health Science in Health Administration from the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto (2003).

Emily was previously President of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP), Chief Administrator for the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada Toronto Objective Structured Clinical Examination and an assessor for the Ontario College of Pharmacists’ Quality Assurance Practice Review. She served as Vice Chair of the Death Investigation Oversight Council reporting to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Emily sat on the boards of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Canada, the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Board and was the Executive Editor for the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Report. She also sat on the U of T/Toronto Academic Health Science Network Joint Task Force for Valuing Academic Performance, and on the Avoidable Hospitalization Advisory Panel reporting to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Faizan Baig is the lead pharmacist of Clinical and Early Intervention Services at Cubic Health. He also works at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) as a pharmacist in the Psychiatric Emergency department. If you have not met him in person, then you may have heard his voice on the pharmacy podcast, Off the Script. Faizan is passionate, outspoken, and dedicated to advancing the pharmacy profession.

Ajay is a pharmacy graduate with a myriad of experiences in different areas of pharmacy. He owns and operates several independent pharmacies in Toronto, is a hospital pharmacist at CAMH, and co-founded Apothecare, a cannabis education and consulting company that works closely with the Wholehealth Pharmacy banner. He is passionate about healthcare innovation and having pharmacists being an integral part of that innovation.

Bita Janzadeh joined MedEssist during her fourth-year APPE rotations. She is now a clinical software engineer for MedEssist as well as a technical consultant for the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Canada. She has led multiple development projects including leading software development of MedEssist’s minor ailments assessment system, creating an education and training platform from scratch, and leading the integration of MapFlow clinical tools with MedEssist’s platform.

Anushya is a pharmacy graduate and has gained numerous experiences over the years in the areas of pharmacy, marketing, and the cannabis industry. She owns and operates two Wholehealth pharmacies in downtown Toronto, leads the business development for health and wellness with Insalata Cannabis Market, and is the co-founder of Apothecare, a pharmacist-led cannabis consulting company. Anushya is dedicated to advancing the pharmacy profession with innovative solutions and navigating diverse healthcare landscapes.

Vice-President and General Manager, Biopharma Operations and Customer Experience, McKesson Canada

Rebecca Yu is the Vice President and General Manager of Biopharma Operations at McKesson Canada. She is also currently a Special Advisor for the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus with the University of Toronto’s Research and Innovation Department. She was previously the VP, Gastroenterology (Specialty, Rare, Cell Therapies) at Takeda Canada leading its business franchise including sales management and marketing. At Takeda, she successfully held the roles of the VP, Market Access & External Affairs and the Head of Patient Support Services. Rebecca was previously the Head of JLABS Canada and was instrumental in setting up J&J Innovation’s first international JLABS incubator in partnership with the Ontario Government, University of Toronto, MaRS Innovation and 8 research hospitals. Through this partnership, she successfully secured a public-private partnership which included an investment of $19.4M from the Ontario Government.

Rebecca has over 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in a range of positions with Solvay Pharma, P&G, Servier, Pfizer, Janssen, J&J Innovation, and Takeda.

Prior to joining industry, she practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist at The Wellesley Hospital. Rebecca is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Pharmacy.

Rebecca was previously on the Board of Directors for the Life Sciences Ontario Association, and was a member of the Joint Steering Committee for the University of Toronto’s Neuroscience Catalyst. Rebecca was appointed to the Government of Canada’s Selection Committee for Venture Capital Catalyst Initiative (VCCI) to provide recommendations on selection of recipients of over $400M in VC funds. She is currently on the U of T’s Dean’s Advisory Council, Faculty of Pharmacy.
