Job Description
Overview of Courses
Clinical Instructors can be involved with courses in both the PharmD and PharmD for Pharmacists programs. While the majority of Clinical Instructors work in the Medication Therapy Management Courses (MTM) in the PharmD Program, there are many other courses in both the PharmD and PharmD for Pharmacists programs that employ Clinical Instructors including ones focused on pharmacotherapy, patient care, and patient safety. Overview of Position
Clinical Instructors are our professional clinician pharmacist teaching partners. The Faculty requires practicing pharmacists from all types of practice to engage with our students to practice professional skills through our programs. Their rich and diverse experiences ensure our students are exposed to a broad range of professionals who practice uniquely while reinforcing our College's expectations in delivering consistent and excellent care to patients. Clinical Instructors share their time and expertise and provide mentorship and feedback to our students. Clinical Instructor contracts are issued on a year-to-year basis. Please note that acting as a Clinical Instructor is considered teaching experience for the purposes of applying for teaching positions at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.
Pharmacists employed at Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) hospitals may be able to act as a Clinical Instructor during regular business hours, if an agreement can be reached with your supervisor and respective Education Coordinators. If you are considering this arrangement, please ensure you have discussed this with Education Coordinators before applying.
Clinical Instructor Duties
Duties of Clinical Instructors can include the following:
- Participate in required orientation specific to the course(s) the Clinical Instructor is hired for
- Facilitate and/or role play cases with small groups of students as they practice
- Receiving verbal orders
- Processing and checking prescriptions
- Responding to drug information queries
- Interacting with patients and/or caregivers to obtain clinical histories and pharmacotherapy profiles
- Providing professional counselling and information
- Assessment of student performance during cases
- Assessment of student assignments and/or examinations
Clinical Instructors rate of pay is $30.33/hour, with all payments made at the end of each respective term.
Work Schedule
Most Clinical Instructors will work on-site at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy on selected weekdays between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Many Clinical Instructors work 4 – 5 days per term, although this varies based on the course, and specific duties. Most work will take place on-site, however, there may be opportunities for Clinical Instructors to work remotely. Clinical Instructors will also be needed to participate in required orientation specific to their course(s).
Medication Therapy Management (MTM) courses take place once per week for a single term. The course scheduling details can be found in the table below:

Reporting
Clinical Instructors will report directly to the Course Coordinator of the course they are assigned. Your work hours, and tasks assigned, will be mutually agreed upon and formally approved by your Course Coordinator(s) and you.
Job Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Be an active licensed (Part A) pharmacist in the province of Ontario
- Meet one of the following experience requirements:
- a minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy experience
- a completed pharmacy residency
Assets
- Experience in teaching/education
- Experience using Quercus, or other learning management systems
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and other relevant software systems
- Experience using Kroll, or other pharmacy management software
- Strong communication skills
