Job Description

This course is designed for pharmacy students to develop a broad understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacology, clinical pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapy in introductory areas of general medicine, and uses a case-based approach with emphasis on the integration and application of fundamental principles to specific clinical situations. This course serves as an important foundation for future Pharmacotherapy and Medication Therapy Management courses. Selected topics covered include: pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, risk factors, natural history, diagnosis and differential diagnosis and classes of medications used for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gastrointestinal disorders, as well as foundational drug therapy concepts in medication in pediatrics, older adults and other special populations.

This 39 hour course will consist of didactic lectures and case-based workshops to enable students to develop skills integral to patient assessment and optimizing drug therapy for patients with these conditions. The expected enrollment for the course is 240.

Job Requirements

Applicants should at a minimum, be a Pharmacist licensed in a Canadian jurisdiction, possess a BScPhm or a PharmD degree and experience working within the Canadian Health Care system. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, currently practice in, and demonstrate a strong knowledge of the relevant topics, and, possess excellent organization and communication skills. Experience in the development and delivery of courses, and large classroom teaching or course co-ordination is an strong asset.
