New Student Award to support Undergraduate students in financial need
This past May, the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Class of 7T1 held their 50th Anniversary Reunion Celebration. What was once imagined to be a milestone on-campus event, became a unique and exceptional celebration of support and camaraderie on a virtual stage. The group had two big reasons to celebrate: their 50th anniversary of graduation and the very successful establishment of their class award for students in financial need.
Led by a fundraising committee including Stephen Pearson, Dave Shaw, Anne Milochik and Mark Palumbo, the Class of 7T1 set out to raise $25,000 to establish an endowed award for students in financial need. Within the first 3 weeks of their fundraising effort, they managed to not only meet, but exceed their goals by raising $36,550 in pledges for the Class of 7T1 award.
Pharmacy, a rewarding and fulfilling experience
When asked about the inspiration for establishing the award, committee member Mark Palumbo said, “the fiftieth anniversary of our graduation has provided our Class of 7T1 the opportunity to reflect back on our university days and to celebrate the accomplishments made over the years in our chosen profession. The overwhelming sentiment of our classmates is that Pharmacy has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience, instilling in us a desire to give back to a profession that has given us so much.”
The new endowed bursary will support second year undergraduate students at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, who are active student leaders and demonstrate a dedicated commitment to their community.
“The Class of 7T1 award is the perfect vehicle to recognize our legacy in a profession we love, to acknowledge the many accomplishments made by our classmates of 7T1 and to provide perpetual aid and support to those students who will be the future of Pharmacy,” Palumbo said.
The group now looks forward to continuing their celebration in person by hosting a mini-reunion this fall. The Class of 7T1 Award will have an indelible impact on generations of students and the pharmacy profession. The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy is proud to congratulate the Class of 7T1 for this amazing initiative.
