Incoming U of T Pharmacy students receive distinguished admission scholarships

The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy is Canada’s leading faculty of pharmacy. We help shape, the future of pharmacy by preparing students in our PharmD program to provide expert, patient-centred care. Those who apply to our PharmD program are among the best and brightest and each year, we are pleased to present more than 10  admission scholarships in celebration of the high achievements accomplished by members of the incoming  class.

One of the longest-running awards is the Colonel F.A. Tilston Admission Scholarship. Colonel Tilston graduated from U of T Pharmacy in 1929 and retired president and chief executive officer of Sterling Drug Ltd. He was the first U of T graduate, and the ninth Canadian, to win the Victoria Cross, the highest Commonwealth award of wartime honour, in World War II.

As one of the recipients of the Col. F.A. Tilston Admission Scholarship, class of 2T2 student Elizabeth Lau says she owes her accomplishment to perseverance.

“I am very grateful for this scholarship,” says Lau. “As an early undergraduate, I did not have the best grades, but through persevering and continuing to work harder, I was able to enter the PharmD program and receive this honour.  I hope to be a good example to future students and show that you can still reach your goals as long as you put your mind to it”.

From community involvement to academics, entrance scholarships are provided to incoming students who stand out from the crowd, exemplifying hard work and dedication in a number of categories.

“Scholarships specific to incoming students provide recognition for achievement in areas such as academics, sports, leadership and student life,” says Jamie Kellar, Acting Director of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program and Assistant Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. “We feel it is important to recognize the achievements already attained by a new cohort of students and hopefully inspire them to get involved early and continue to seek opportunities to develop themselves as students and future pharmacy leaders.”
