Claudia Ho, recent graduate of the PharmD for Pharmacists program at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, has been awarded the 2018-2019 CSHP - Ontario PharmD for Pharmacists Award.
Ho has been recognized for her accomplishments during her cardiac ICU rotation at St. Michael's Hospital, working alongside Assistant Professor (status) Heather Kertland.
"I was very self-driven with my learning goals, and optimized each opportunity that I had to achieve them under my preceptor's guidance" says Ho. "By forging a strong relationship with the multidisciplinary team, I was able to distinguish cardiac murmurs in patients through one on one sessions with a cardiology fellow. My efforts allowed me to better care for my patients. "
For Ho, the PharmD for Pharmacists program provided a platform to further her clinical knowledge, while expanding her network and learning from highly experienced clinicians, professors, and industry leaders.
"I chose the program because I wanted to become a stronger clinician" says Ho. "Enrolling with that mentality really motivated me to achieve my career goals, and take in as much as I could."
Now a recent graduate with a new career on the horizon, Ho believes that her time in the PharmD for Pharmacists program helped to create a number of new, rewarding career opportunities for her.
"I've begun a new position as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Renal Program at Fraser Health, and recently have been invited to teach at the University of British Columbia" says Ho. "Over the next few years, I hope to focus on honing my skills to become an effective leader in my field, while also dedicating time to assist in the professional development of other clinical pharmacists, residents, and pharmacy students."
