Dear Preceptors,
Further to the message we circulated on April 8th, 2020, the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy has made some key decisions regarding our experiential rotations. These changes have resulted in an impact to the number and types of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations available to our students. As such we’ve had to make adjustments to our experiential program for students beginning Year 4 of the program and scheduled to start rotations on May 4, 2020. For the 2020/2021 Year we have decided that students can participate in Non Direct Patient Care (NDPC) rotations in Block 1 and Block 2, if these can be facilitated remotely.
We are asking that all interested preceptors please provide us with their availability to precept APPE students in the upcoming APPE blocks 1 and 2. We realize that some of you currently have scheduled NDPC rotations for blocks 1 and 2. We ask that you please keep these rotations as scheduled, if you are able to facilitate these rotations in a remote format. These rotations are incredibly important to our students and provide vital experiences, contributing to their role as future pharmacists.
To confirm your availability, or to provide new availability, kindly complete the survey link by next week Tuesday April 21, 2020.
We understand that precepting NDPC remote rotations may be new for some preceptors. We will be updating our Preceptor Development Site with resources and tips to support your transition to remote precepting. We will also be hosting virtual orientation and Q&A sessions, and the dates for these sessions will be provided at a later time.
Attached you will find a copy of our Preceptor Experiential Manual. Please refer to pages 40 to 41 for more information on NDPC learning objectives, competencies and activities.
