As fall approaches, Canada will soon face a flu season unlike any other. The prospect of the seasonal influenza epidemic overlapping with the COVID-19 pandemic has become a genuine possibility. But what will this mean for Canadians?
This unique public health scenario poses a number of unanswered questions. Can patients be infected by both viruses at once (what we call a superinfection)? How will a patient with a superinfection clinically respond? And ultimately, how do we prepare for both viruses?
