Dear students,

Like many of you, I am missing the energy that I feel inside our building and I want all Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy students to know that they have a home at 144 College St.

There are many benefits to online learning, such as enhanced flexibility and autonomy, but the U of T campus plays an important role in cultivating the university experience. From a quiet study space to small-group meetings and social gatherings, our building is a dynamic hub of academic, research, professional and social activity.

The Faculty is following a phased approach to reopening the building and resuming activities that is informed by public health guidelines, as well as the University’s guidelines and recommendations.

At this time, these guidelines allow us to open the building to students, but it’s important that everyone is clear on the following building procedures and safety protocol:

Building Access

The building is unlocked Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Only members of the U of T community are permitted building access. On evenings and weekends the building is accessible by fob only. While the building is accessible by fob-holders 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we recommend limiting access between 7:00 a.m. to midnight.

Floors B2 to 3, and 6 to 8 are open and accessible by elevator without a fob, but capacity is restricted to ensure physical distancing. Before entering the building, please watch this video demonstrating how to safely access the elevators, stairwells, labs, bathrooms, etc.

Masks

University Policy requires non-medical masks or face coverings to be worn indoors in common-use spaces on University property, including the Pharmacy Building. Please note that face shields are not a replacement for masks. Click here for U of T’s Mask FAQ.

Each student is allocated two U of T masks that are available for pick-up at the main reception desk from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We will not be mailing masks to individual households at this time.

If you find yourself in a group where individuals are not wearing a mask, we encourage you to speak up and ask people to distance. A simple statement like, “Let’s spread out for all our safety” can be effective. I also ask everyone to listen to one another and respect the physical distancing protocol. We regularly update our Reopening: Plans and Procedures webpage and encourage all students to stay informed about access and safety protocol, policies and procedures as the resumption of operations and activities at our building continue to evolve with public health and University guidelines.

FOB Requests and Reactivation

Facilities Management is accepting fob reactivation and new fob requests primarily from first-year students, as well as all LDFP students. We will not be reactivating all fobs, rather each student must follow this process to request fob access: · Email name and student ID number to vera.costa@utoronto.ca for fob reactivation/request

  • Any student requesting a new or replacement fob will need to sign an agreement/declaration to follow access rules and provide a $20 cash deposit
  • All requests received by end of day each Sunday will be processed by end of day the following Tuesday

Study Space

Student study spaces are accessible in the Student Resource Centre on floors 1, 2 and 3. Desks are strategically placed to ensure physical distancing is practiced. Desks in the Student Resource Centre are available to book in Outlook where they are listed as PHM 220 Desk A, PHM 220 Desk B, etc. on the second floor, and PHM 330 Desk A, PHM 330 Desk B, etc. on the third floor.

Elevator Access

Floors B2 to 3, and 6 to 8 are open and accessible by elevator without a fob, but capacity is restricted to ensure physical distancing.

Floors 4, 5 and 9 through 12 are restricted and accessible by FOB only 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

University Facilities and Services has directed us that elevators can accommodate only two people at a time. If you have any questions about safe building use or concerns, please contact: Tina Harvey-Kane, Director of Facilities Management.

Sincerely,

Lisa Dolovich,
