Professor Allen joins 173 medical and biological engineers who are revolutionizing medicine to enhance and extend the lives of people all over the world
Professor Christine Allen was elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows in recognition of her distinguished and continuing achievements in medical and biological engineering.
“I’m honoured to be elected into the AIMBE College of Fellows and humbled to join this stellar group of leaders who are leveraging scientific discovery to make a meaningful impact on our society,” said Allen, Associate Vice-President and Vice Provost, Strategic Initiatives at the University of Toronto and Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.
“I’m tremendously grateful to my lab group, colleagues, advocates and champions for their support – together let’s keep advocating for academic research to transform the lives of patients globally.”
The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two per cent of medical and biological engineers in the United States. She is one of 174 members of the AIMBE Fellow Class of 2021— including engineering and medical school chairs, research directors, professors, innovators and entrepreneurs — who have helped revolutionize medicine and related fields to enhance and extend the lives of people all over the world.
Allen was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for her contributions to the development of polymeric micelles and advancement of drug delivery technology in academic and industrial research. Her research focuses on developing advanced drug delivery formulations for treating a wide range of indications, including cancer and osteoarthritis. The Allen lab is committed to driving these technologies from bench to bedside in collaboration with several start-up companies in the Toronto area and beyond.
“This is an outstanding achievement and I’m delighted to congratulate Professor Allen on her election to the AIMBE College of Fellows,” said Stéphane Angers, Professor and Associate Dean, Research at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.
“Her research in drug delivery and disease diagnostics is not only driving knowledge and innovation, she’s also training the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists who will transform how diseases are diagnosed and treated, ultimately improving the health of Canadians and people around the world.”
A formal induction ceremony will be held during AIMBE’s 2021 Annual Event on March 26, 2021. For more information about the AIMBE fellows, click here.
