PharmD Final Application Deadline (for admission in September 2024)- January 5, 2024 (11:59 pm Eastern time)

Casper final valid test date and registration deadline - January 10, 2024 (5:00 pm Eastern time registration deadline)

Admission Requirements for the PharmD program:

Pharmacists serve an important role in each community across Canada, as key professionals within the healthcare system. To be successful in this multifaceted role, individuals must be effective communicators, collaborative, empathetic and possess strong problem-solving skills.

For admission in September 2024 applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program are considered based on three key factors:

  • Academic Performance;
  • Casper (Situational-judgement) test score, and;
  • Online Individual Assessment (formerly referred to as ‘Admissions Interview').

Academic Performance

  • Applicants must successfully complete a minimum of 1.5 FCEs (full-credit equivalents)* in Chemistry, 1.0 FCE in Biology, 1.0 FCE in Mathematics (including 0.5 in Calculus)  and 1.0 FCE in Humanities/Social Science at the university level, by the end of April of the year for which application has been made**.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed a total of at least 8.0 FCEs at the university level by the end of April of the year for which application has been made.
  • Applicants must achieve a cumulative university average of no less than 70% (equivalent to a ‘B-’ at the University of Toronto).

*(FCE = Full-credit equivalent.  1.0 FCE= 2 terms or semesters, 0.5 FCE = 1 term or semester)

**Refer to important details including restrictions on acceptable courses in the ‘Academic Requirements’ and ‘Handbook’ sections.

Casper (Situational-judgement test)

All applicants must complete the Casper Test, which is an online situational-judgement test used to assess non-academic competencies and attributes.  This test is administered online, and may be completed anywhere you have a reliable internet connection.  You must refer to https://acuityinsights.app for details, and test dates. Scores for tests taken from July 2023 to January 10, 2024 are valid for the 2024 admission cycle.  Note that the final test date occurs January 10, 2024 and registration is recommended at least 3 days prior. Applicants are encouraged to review details and consider taking the practice test.

Online Individual Assessment - (formerly referred to as 'Admission Interviews')

All applicants who meet a minimum threshold in academic criteria, and who also meet a minimum threshold in the Casper test, will be required to proceed to the Online Individual Assessment.  This Assessment is used to assess non-academic attributes.  For example this may include, but would not necessarily be limited to:

  • Communication skills (oral and written communication)
  • Problem Solving
  • Leadership
  • Ethical Reasoning
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Resiliency
  • Conscientiousness

This Assessment will be completed through a video-enabled platform.  The format will include (video-recorded questions and responses, along with written/typed responses in addition to multiple-choice responses).  You would prepare for this step of our admission process as you would for an interview although this assessment is asynchronous and does not involve live one-on-one interaction with an interviewer.

Approximately 600 applicants will be selected to proceed to this stage of our admissions process. Eligible  applicants must complete this Assessment to remain eligible for further admissions consideration. For admission in September 2024 this Assessment is scheduled only on Thursday, March 28, 2024 between 0600 and 1800 h Eastern Time Zone (the specific time, an approximate 3.0 hour block, will be announced 4-6 weeks prior). No additional or alternative dates or times will be offered under any circumstances.

Selection Process

  • All applicants will be assessed on academic criteria (as noted above) as well as performance in the Casper Test.  It should be noted that although 70% is the minimum published average, this is used as a ‘screen out’. This means that no applicants below 70% will be considered, however those at or above 70% are not automatically considered.  The minimum ‘threshold’ to proceed to the Online Individual Assessment (or during final selections) may be higher than 70% depending on the performance of applicants within the total applicant pool in any given year. Eligible applicants, who meet the required threshold in the academic criteria, and in the Casper Test, will proceed to the Online Individual Assessment where a minimum threshold (score) must also be met.
  • A sufficient number of offers of admission will be made to the top candidates in June to fill a class of approximately 240, while some remaining qualified candidates may be placed on a waiting list.

All qualified candidates are welcome to apply for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.  This includes domestic non-Ontario residents and international students.  Within the class of approximately 240 students there is no limit to the number of qualified non-Ontario residents, including international students, who may be admitted.
