The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program

Designed for individuals wishing to pursue careers as licensed pharmacists, the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is the Faculty’s newest educational offering.

Introduced in 2011, the PharmD program focuses on today’s most pressing healthcare issues. Students graduating from this four-year program participate in 44 weeks of hands-on clinical training and graduate with an extensive knowledge of pharmacotherapy and medication therapy management. Ultimately, graduates from this program will deliver the enhanced scope of practice called for by the Canadian healthcare system.

The PharmD program replaces the four-year Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) program that was the professional degree option at the Faculty since the 1950s. The change from a Bachelor’s degree to a PharmD degree reflects the changing scope of practice and increased responsibilities of pharmacists in the healthcare system, and is aligned with the international move to this degree.
