Objectives & Activities

To aid in the WHO Collaborating Centre for Governance, Accountability and Transparency in the Pharmaceutical Sector’s mission to conduct research, analysis, and training on critical issues related to good governance and transparency in medicines, the Centre has three objectives:

  1. To use existing research facilities at the University of Toronto for pharmaceutical policy research, analysis, and training on critical issues related to good governance and transparency in medicines and in collaboration with the WHO.
  2. To ensure global dissemination of knowledge on the issues related to good governance and transparency by establishing a global network of researchers, policy makers, and advocates in coordination with the WHO.
  3. To support collaboration and help intensify the work of the WHO in areas related to good governance and transparency in medicines.

In support of these three objectives, the following research and training activities are planned for the next five years:

  1. Annual policy workshops on topics related to good governance and transparency
  2. The creation of a graduate level course on pharmaceutical good governance and transparency
  3. An intensive summer/supplemental course on good governance and medicines
  4. Information dissemination
