Director of Pharmacy – Clinical
Olavo completed a BScPhm (1995 U of T), Residency in hospital pharmacy at the University Health Network (1996) and PharmD (1998 U of T).
As Clinical Director of Pharmacy at a tertiary-care teaching hospital, Olavo’s portfolio oversees pharmacy practice/ direct inpatient care, teaching and research at three hospital sites and includes clinical site leaders, education, pharmacy residency program, pharmacy informatics, & drug information. Clinical / professional/ research interests include: emergency- general internal medicine, pharmacy practice models, pharmacy leadership, patient safety and medication reconciliation, and medication information transfer. Olavo is actively involved in patient and medication safety research projects, publications aimed at designing, implementing interdisciplinary practice models and tools for medication reconciliation and information transfer.
Olavo serves in a part-time capacity to co-coordinate the case-study components of the undergraduate therapeutics / pharmaceutical care courses and selected lectures for PHM321/ 421. He also lectures in various other undergraduate courses on patient safety topics and also the IPG therapeutics program (CPS I and II).
Olavo is a medication safety specialist/ consultant with ISMP Canada to help support leadership and coordination medication reconciliation activities for local, provincial, national (active national faculty member for Safer Health Care Now! Patient safety network) and international initiatives (World Health Organization High 5s patient safety campaign).
