2017-18 Annual Report
The Forman Family
On Friday, June 8, 2018, our Faculty celebrated a multitude of achievements of our PharmD students as part of the Convocation Reception & Graduating Awards Ceremony at the Royal Conservatory of Music in downtown Toronto. This year, Chelsea Geen received the inaugural Harry and Frances Forman Award in recognition of her academic excellence and extracurricular involvement in the Undergraduate Pharmacy Society (UPS). Four siblings, Dr. Noah, Amy, Heidi, and Debra Forman, established the Harry and Frances Forman Award in honour of their parents.
Harry Forman was a graduate of the Faculty in 1947, and had an almost sixty-year professional career including, as a young pharmacist, co-owner of a neighbourhood pharmacy, a many-year associateship with Shoppers Drug Mart, and, in later years, working as a part-time pharmacist before retiring at the age of 80. Harry loved his career in pharmacy, in part because of his life-long, close relationship with fellow pharmacists, but largely because of all the many customers he got to know and care for over the years, often delivering prescriptions to those who could not easily come in to pick up their medications. Harry’s closest partner in life was his dear wife Frances. Together they raised four children and, for many years, worked side by side in the pharmacy. Harry and Frances Forman were married for sixty years before they passed away within two months of each other in 2014.
Without the support of our Donors, like the Forman Family, we would not be able to provide students with the opportunity to excel and become future leaders of our profession. We are so pleased that the award in honour of our parents, Harry and Frances Forman, is such a fitting tribute in their memory. It has been a very meaningful experience creating the award together with the Faculty and especially heartwarming to present the inaugural award to Chelsea Geen, who absolutely exemplifies what the award represents. It was a great honour to attend the ceremony and meet Chelsea and her parents; our parents, too, would have been proud. – Amy Forman
