Examples of Acceptable Courses

The table below provides examples of the known courses, or combinations of courses, which may be used to meet specific subject requirements for the PharmD program.  The table includes listings for Ontario Universities, as well some non-Ontario universities. Due to the large number of post-secondary institutions we cannot list all institutions. You may meet our academic requirements by attending any recognized university. Updates will be made to these listings as new information becomes available.

The courses listed in the Biology, Chemistry and Math fields are suggestions of typical course combinations that may be used to meet specific subject areas, and are most commonly required at first and second year level science programs.  You must complete the minimum number of full course equivalents (FCE) in each subject area as indicated below.

While there is no specific required course content, prospective students must include 0.5 FCE Calculus to satisfy the Math requirement. Please refer to restrictions outlined in the Academic Requirements section and in the Handbook. All courses used to meet the specific subject requirements must be completed at the undergraduate level within 10 years of the year for which application is made (i.e. courses must be completed in fall 2014 or later for the 2024 admission cycle.

Biology - 1.0 FCE

Chemistry – 1.5 FCEs

Math –1.0 FCE (including 0.5 FCE Calculus)
  • Minimum  of 2 terms/ semesters
  • The examples listed below are 1st year Intro / General Bio most commonly required for science programs. Note that Anatomy/Physiology courses cannot be used
  • Minimum of 3 terms/ semesters
  • The examples listed below are 1st year Intro/General Chemistry and Organic Chem  most commonly required for science programs. Note that Biochemistry courses cannot be used
  • Minimum of 2 terms/semesters
  • The examples listed are for 1st year Calculus, most commonly required for science programs. Note that Statistics courses cannot be used

In addition to the subjects listed on the table below remember that the following are also among the subject requirements:

  • Two terms/semesters of Humanities/Social Sciences at the university level are also among the subject requirements but are not listed in the table as there are a very wide range of subjects that are acceptable. Please refer to the Academic Requirements section  and Handbook for additional details.
