Examples of Acceptable Courses
The table below lists example of the known courses at Ontario universities, in addition to some non-Ontario institutions, for which we commonly receive inquiries. The courses listed are the first- and second-year course combinations that are included in most Life and Physical Science programs and are examples of the minimum requirements needed to meet our specific Biology, Chemistry and Math subject requirements. This list is not fully comprehensive and lists only the most commonly taken courses, for the post-secondary institutions for which we receive the most inquiries. Due to the large number of post-secondary institutions we cannot list all. Course titles and content vary amongst different post-secondary institutions. The examples given include: General /Intro Biology I and II; Calculus I and II; General Chemistry I and II, and Organic Chemistry. Note that the listing may include courses that are no longer offered (former course codes).
If you do not see your institution listed, or if your course codes differ from the table, and if you are uncertain whether your courses will meet our requirements, you can contact us at adm.phm@utoronto.ca. You may meet our academic requirements by attending any recognized university.
If you have completed more than 2 years of university, and you have completed upper year courses in the required subject areas, you may opt to list them in the ‘Required Courses’ section of your application instead; however, listing upper year courses is not necessary and does not advantage your application.
You must complete the minimum number of FCEs in each subject area as indicated. Although there is no specific required course content (other than for the Math subject requirement, which must include 0.5 FCE Calculus) be aware of the restrictions as outlined in the Academic Requirements section and in the Handbook. In addition, be aware that all required subjects must be completed at the undergraduate level within 10 years of the year for which you are applying (i.e. for the 2025 admission cycle courses used to meet the specific subject requirements must be successfully completed fall 2015 or later).

Chemistry – 1.5 FCEs |
Math –1.0 FCE (including 0.5 FCE Calculus) |

In addition to the subjects listed on the table below remember that two terms/semesters of Humanities/Social Sciences (1.0 FCE) at the university level are also among the subject requirements but are not listed in the table as there are a very wide range of subjects that are acceptable. Please refer to the Academic Requirements section and Handbook for additional details and examples.
