It’s well known that the health sector is highly resource intensive and contributes significant pollution to our planet. Pharmaceuticals have a particularly large impact on greenhouse gas emissions and so the pharmacy profession has unique opportunities to meaningfully improve efforts aimed at environmental sustainability to ultimately reduce the health care sector’s climate impact and adopt climate mitigation and adaptation strategies.
In collaboration with the University of Toronto’s Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care and CASCADES, the CPE is proud to support a program of work focused on environmental sustainability in pharmacy and across the health care system. Work at this time is focused on raising awareness and action for climate-related initiatives through research, education, practice improvements, and policy change.
